Guests from Oklahoma and Texas who go as far north as Montana for trout fishing are elated to discover that there's no need to travel so far from home. The Mountain Fork River is an ideal and beautiful habitat for terrific trout, and Steve Branson will clean and bag your catch to take home with you for supper, so be sure to bring a cooler.

Booking Your Fly Rod or Spin Cast Fishing Trip: Steve takes guests fishing 365 days a year and accepts parties of up to six people. Steve offers half day trips of 4 hours and full day trips of 8 hours. Choose from spin cast or fly fishing or a combination package. Book your trip at least 2 weeks in advance (the sooner, the better), but if your vacation on Broken Bow Lake is a last-minute trip, don't hesitate to phone Steve at (580) 306-5613 or (580) 314-8237 to inquire about openings.

What Your Fishing Guide Provides: Steve offers a true full-service guided fishing trip. He will provide all fly rods, flies, spin cast rods, reels, bait and tackle. He will make sure you are well-provided with bottled water and if you book a full day's trip, he will take you to lunch at the Lakeway Bait & Tackle or to another local eatery mid-day in Hochatown for BBQ, sandwiches, burgers and other tasty fare, mid-day.

What You Should Bring: You'll need a fishing license, which you can obtain from Lakeway Bait & Tackle, or from Steve's website. In cold weather, Steve recommends that you bring hip waders. In warmer weather, shorts and sandals are fine. Dressing in layers is always good insurance and you should consider bringing a hat and sunscreen. Bring a snack if you like, but please be aware that it is against the law to consume alcohol here on the Lower Mountain Fork River.

Everyone Is Welcome: From the skilled sportsman to the first-time fishing novice, every guest will find a friendly reception. Steve is the proud father of four and enjoys sharing the fun of fishing with children. All guests will be treated with respect and will learn the very best techniques for catching trout. If you've never tried these types of fishing before, here is your chance to learn from an expert who truly loves to teach!

The One That Didn't Get Away: Fishermen may be famous for telling tall tales of fish that got away, but visit Steve Branson's website and you'll see photo proof of his catch of the largest ever rainbow trout in the park. Weighing in at a 6 lbs. 12 oz., and measuring 23.5 inches in length, this is a trout any fisherman would prize. Steve will do everything he can to ensure that you catch some great trout, too, and he loves it when guests come back year after year for more good times on the river.

Steve says that no matter what kind of catch a day may bring, his guests never fail to benefit from the time spent outdoors on this idyllic mountain stream. If city living and the workaday routine are making you feel a little dull, the fresh air and peerless scenery here will revitalize your senses and bring life into a brighter, sharper focus again. Columnist Doug Larson once said,

"If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles."

At Vacation Broken Bow Lake, we couldn't agree more with that sentiment, and we're confident that you'll have an extra fun and relaxing day if you book your fishing trip with this talented and friendly guide.
